Reiger & Cathy

MEANT TO BE

St. Joseph the Worker and Hilltop, Quest Hotel

Rieger and Catherine met in an unlikely place and at an unlikely time to find love that was yet to blossom: Boracay, Summer of 2013. He was then based in Singapore, and she was starting a business in Manila. They kept in constant touch and would see each other whenever he came home to the Philippines. However, they still had not ascertained their feelings for each other. They would even crossed paths, coincidentally, in some foreign lands during family holidays. She thought fate enjoyed playing cupid.

When Rieger returned to the Philippines permanently, they made their relationship official. Fast forward four years later, basking in the afterglow of dusk over Santorini, Cathy found herself speechless, simply nodding her head to her future husband on bended knee.

Planning their nuptials, they unanimously agreed on many things: a garden wedding someplace with a cooler temperature; decor in green and white; modern elegance and timeless romanticism. They wanted a venue readily accessible to their families, and at the same time, serving as an enjoyable getaway. Tagaytay was an easy choice—it was ideal for the garden reception the couple envisioned.

But fate, ever mischievous, had other plans. Two weeks before the wedding, Taal Volcano erupted. With no time to spare, the couple moved their wedding to Clark, Pampanga, closer to the bride’s hometown. Despite the unexpected change in venue and the necessary adjustments it entailed, they were determined to hold the wedding as scheduled.

They transformed a chapel into an indoor garden, with trees from the entrance to the altar. From one oasis to another, their garden reception was complemented by a custom menu of delicious food and bottomless drinks. Where the chapel had a harmonious choir, the reception featured an acoustic singer who serenaded guests over dinner. After speeches and toasts, a DJ kicked off the after-party.

Rieger and Cathy’s wedding did not happen in the originally chosen location. Nevertheless, the sudden “little hiccup” the normally quiet volcano belched out was a blessing in disguise for it made the nuptial rites and reception more eventful.
