Andrew & Anna

AN ISLAND ESCAPADE

Lagen, El Nido

Andrew and Anna shared the same vision for their wedding: they intended the occasion to be a celebration of love—not just their love for each other but the love they feel and share with their respective families and friends. Inspired by botanical prints, they personally designed their monogrammed invitations which became the running theme of the wedding. The small floral prints which looked like sampaguita inspired the flower selection for the ceremony. Sampaguita blooms were then strung together and hung on trees in the ceremony area.
Garbed in off-white wraps fashioned by Ditta Sandico Ong from banana fiber, the bridesmaids had fun experimenting on how the wrap can be worn. Reminiscent of the traditional Filipina silhouette, the wrap added a touch of sophistication and panache when this dainty drapery was tied and twisted around the waist shaping feminine arcs. In turn, the groomsmen were dapper in their traditional barong Tagalog.
Anna was every inch a bride in her custom-made Veluz gown. It was an off-white, fully beaded piña gown with delicate floral embroidery mirroring the small flowers found on the lace veil, an heirloom piece from the groom’s family. She held a bouquet of white orchids, magnolia, roses, tuberoses, and gardenia perfectly framed by foliage for added texture.

After the ceremony, the members of the wedding entourage were led to small boats and cruised around the island while sipping champagne and viewing the sunset. Meanwhile, landbound guests went straight to the cocktail area where they nibbled on local delicacies like banana chips, dried mangoes, and cashews.

At the dining area, string lights were placed above the dance floor while a local calligrapher inscribed each guest’s name in gold on a green leaf that served as place card. The guests enjoyed the acoustic music during the dinner. But the standout moment was Andrew and Anna’s first dance which incorporated the Filipino tradition of pinning money on the bride’s and groom’s garments. In the end, the money collected partially defrayed the cost of the couple’s honeymoon.
