Joseph & Marnely

LOVE, GREAT GATSBY STYLE

St. John Bosco Parish Church and Hotel Raffles Makati Grand Ballroom

The Hollywood Art Deco movement and the Gatsbyesque style of the 1930s have always fascinated Joseph. Thus, it was not surprising at all that the conceptual framework of his wedding zeroed in on this particular milieu and its elements. Her bride, Marnely, arrived at the St. John Bosco Parish Church in Makati in a restored 1950s Mercedes Benz.

Elegant and graceful in a resplendent Victorian-inspired and embroidered gown by Veluz Puno-Reyes, she walked down the aisle toward the waiting love of her life who was dashing in a Francis Libiran suit. The Gospel Music Ministry Choir filled the church with sweet and heavenly melodies during the mass celebrated by no less than four bishops and 12 priests.

Leading the couple’s list of principal sponsors were Vice President Jejomar Binay, Governor Chavit Singson, Governor Bojie Dy, Governor Victor Yap, Teddy Boy Locsin, Peter Coyiuto, Nedy Tantoco, Pinky Tobiano, Ann Puno, and Tina Jacinto.

The 1930s atmosphere was recreated at the grand ballroom of Hotel Raffles Makati by Jo Claravall. “The décor is unlike anything anyone has ever seen hereabouts, and you can quote me on that!” quipped Ralph Peter Jentes, legendary GM of the former Hyatt Regency. “I counted the candelabras alone and there were a total of 80 pieces, each one with nine globed candles,” he added. Even the table setting was lush and fully surrounded by nature, with white French tulips, white orchids, white roses, and amaryllis imported from Holland, Argentina, Ecuador, China, and Korea.

The excitement started with the dramatic entrance of the newlyweds who proceeded directly for the ceremonial cutting of the cake which was followed by a fox-trot dance number. There was non-stop entertainment with some of the best local performers that included the AMP Big Band conducted by Mel Villena, Nicole Asensio, and The Company.
